The Homeland Security Advisory Council at the School of Public Policy hosts several noteworthy events, workshops and symposium focused on disaster preparedness, crisis management, and resiliency through engaging the public, private, and civic sectors.

March 13, 2019	SALUS Symposium Current and prospective SALUS users gathered for the second SALUS Symposium, an exclusive breakout during the 2019 Workshop. During the Symposium, participants used SALUS to actively work through a dynamic, simulated scenario.
March 12 - 13, 2019	Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management Workshop Over 250 crisis managers, public safety professionals, business leaders, and policymakers gathered together for the 2019 Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management Workshop.
March 2, 2019	Emergency Managers Executive Round Table On a quarterly basis, HSAC hosts the Emergency Managers Executive Round Table, which provides a forum for county and city Emergency Managers. The Round Table addresses current and emerging issues, placing emphasis on the Southern California region. On March 12th, Robert Fenton from FEMA Region IX, and Jeff Toney, from Cal OES were in attendance.
November 29, 2018	Managing Disruptive Technology in Crisis Management Three global technology leaders took the stage to discuss their experiences developing technology in the crisis management arena, their challenges and successes, and their take on the future of technology in the field.
November 29, 2018	SALUS Symposium More than thirty SALUS users from across the region gathered together to share how they use SALUS in their agencies and organizations. Topics included event and incident management, mass care, and public information.
October 16, 2018	Crisis Management Case Challenge Five teams of graduate students presented their recommendations on how to increase disaster preparedness among Los Angeles' most vulnerable populations. Students represented California State University, Northridge; the University of Southern California; the University of California, Los Angeles; Pepperdine University; and Northeastern University.
September 18, 2018	Crisis Leadership: Paths to Success At the L.A. Grand Hotel, Ethel McGuire, Assistant Chief of the Office of Homeland Security and Intelligence, Los Angeles Airport Police; Donna Boston, Director of Emergency Management, Orange County Sheriff's Department; Holly Crawford, Director of the Office of Emergency Services, San Diego County; and Eileen Decker, Former United States Attorney, Central District of California gathered to share their experiences managing wildfires, terrorist attacks, and other violent acts. They offered advice to rising crisis managers and insights concerning future trends in the industry.
June 12 - 14, 2018	2018 Verge Hawaii Conference The 2018 Verge Hawaii Conference by GreenBiz brought together experts in the private and public sectors to discuss technical, political, and cultural ways of building a clean and resilient economy. In her keynote address and two sidebar interviews, Devra Schwartz, HSAC Vice President of Operations, discusses the role of disruptive technology, GIS, and SALUS in crisis management.
April 19, 2018	2018 HSAC Gala The 2018 HSAC Gala brought together leading philanthropists in the Los Angeles community to celebrate and support our organization's work, and to recognize Chief Charlie Beck of the Los Angeles Police Department, and HSAC Board Member Norm Nixon.
April 18 - 19, 2018	Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management Workshop Our inaugural Crisis Leadership and Emergency Management Workshop brought together high-level officials and executives from the private, public, and civic sectors to discuss some of the most pressing issues affecting our field today. Participants learned best practices in areas including supply chain resiliency, mass notification, and crisis leadership, and learned firsthand from officials who led the responses to recent mass-scale events including the Thomas Fire, Hurricane Harvey, and the Las Vegas Mass Shooting.
April 11, 2018	Crisis Management Case Challenge The third Crisis Management Case Challenge of 2018 gave graduate students the opportunity to address the following policy question: Should educators be prepared to do more during crises?
March 18, 2018	The Los Angeles Marathon SALUS was used in support of local Emergency Operations Centers during the Los Angeles Marathon, providing increased situational awareness and a means of collaborating between different city jurisdictions.
March 9, 2018	Crisis Management Case Challenge During our second Crisis Management Case Challenge of 2018, teams of graduate students developed policy recommendations on the topic of supply chain resiliency.
February 1, 2018	Crisis Management Case Challenge The first Crisis Management Case Challenge of 2018 had teams of graduate students developing policy recommendations on mass notification practices in Los Angeles.
January 24, 2018	Emergency Managers Executive Round Table The top emergency managers from Southern California convened with HSAC to discuss the state of the region and the most recent disasters.
January 18, 2018	Executive Supply Chain Meeting HSAC convened Southern California's largest grocery retailers to discuss supply chain resilience. The grocery industry plays a significant role in local governments feeding efforts during a disaster.
January 11, 2018	A Conversation with Nim Kidd: Lessons from Hurricane Harvey For the first Distinguished Speaker Series of the year, Nim Kidd detailed his experiences during the recent Hurricane Harvey. "Have a bias for action" - Nim Kidd.

November 11, 2017	2017 International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Annual Conference In addition to HSAC staff attending the 2017 IAEM Conference, HSAC also sponsored the President's Hospitality Reception to welcome emergency managers from around the world to the conference.
October 26, 2017	Crisis Management Case Challenge The second Crisis Management Case Challenge had teams of graduate students developing policy recommendations on post-disaster housing in Los Angeles.
October 11, 2017	Crisis Management: An Evolving Perspective and Developing Leaders The second HSAC Distinguished Speaker Series featured Peter Neffenger, retired Vice-Admiral of the United States Coast Guard, and Brad Kieserman, Vice President of Disaster Operations and Logistics at the American Red Cross.
October 5, 2017	Crisis Management Case Challenge The inaugural Crisis Management Case Challenge was hosted at the University of Southern California, where teams of graduate students competed to present recommendations on contemporary crisis management issues.
October 5, 2017	Women and Crisis Leadership: A Panel Discussion HSAC kicked off its Distinguished Speaker Series with "Women and Crisis Leadership: A Panel Discussion," featuring four highly accomplished leaders in the field.
September 15, 2017	Policy Intensives with Practitioners, a Pepperdine University Series HSAC participated in Pepperdine University's School of Public Policy Practitioner Series on emergency management and homeland security.
July 9, 2017	Esri User Conference: National Security and Public Safety Summit HSAC presented once again at the ESRI User Conference National Security and Public Safety Summit. This year's presentation focused on our information-sharing technology, SALUS - The Crisis Hub.
March 19, 2017	The Los Angeles Marathon HSAC demonstrated SALUS for the Los Angeles Fire Department at the Los Angeles Marathon Unified Command Post.
February 26, 2017	89th Academy Awards HSAC worked with the Los Angeles Police Department to test their newest information-sharing software, SALUS, at the 2017 Academy Awards.
November 17, 2016	National Defense University Fellowship HSAC co-hosted fellows from the National Defense University in proving them with a first-hand look at emergency management within the Los Angeles region.
November 4, 2016	International Symposium on Emergency Management Fuzhou University in China, through the University of Southern California, invited HSAC to present at the International Symposium on Emergency Management.
October 11, 2016	Women in Homeland Security Panel Dr. Gabriela Noriega, HSAC Vice President of Operations, Technology, and Research, was invited to participate and speak about women in homeland security.
October 5, 2016	Los Angeles Fire Department Leadership Academy HSAC President and CEO, Jim Featherstone, presented to Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters on leadership.
September 12, 2016	FEMA National Advisory Council Meeting Jim Featherstone, President and CEO of HSAC, and Chair of the FEMA National Advisory Council, during his meeting and presentation to members in Washington, DC.
June 27, 2016	Esri User Conference HSAC attended the week-long Esri Users Conference in San Diego to learn about the latest advancements in GIS and mapping technologies.
June 25, 2016	Esri National Security and Public Safety Summit As a subject matter expert, HSAC presented at the Esri National Security and Public Safety Summit to a crowd of high-level public safety professionals.
June 26, 2016	Esri Business Summit HSAC participated on a public safety panel to business executives at the Esri Business Summit in San Diego, California.
June 19, 2016	News Conference HSAC participated in an interview on homeland security on NBC 4's News Conference, Southern California's longest-running political and public affairs interview program.
June 9, 2016	Paris Public Safety Briefing HSAC and its sponsored delegation presented to the Los Angeles public safety community at the University of Southern California on lessons learned from recent Paris terrorist attacks.
April 4 - 10, 2016	Paris Delegation HSAC took a delegation of Los Angeles public safety professionals to Paris to consult with local authorities, and gain insight into their recent terrorist attacks.
March 24, 2016	Homeland Security Round Table HSAC participated on a panel about homeland security with Los Angeles Mayor, Eric Garcetti, at the University of Southern California.
