SPP and GSEP Cohost Workshop on Broadband and Entrepreneurship
On June 22, 2022, Dr. James Prieger, professor of public policy at the Pepperdine School of Public Policy, and Dr. Abraham Song, assistant professor in the education division at the Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology, presented a virtual workshop on Broadband and Entrepreneurship. This workshop was funded by a grant from the Pepperdine University Provost Office.
In this virtual conference, four invited sets of authors presented their research relating to the theme of the workshop. Prieger presented his work on how broadband internet access can lower barriers from access to finance for startups, showing that broadband appears to help entrepreneurs gain access to online banking and fintech for funding new ventures. The moderating effect of broadband on financial liquidity constraints applies even more so to areas with large Black populations, making access to broadband highly important for minority entrepreneurs.
