Public Policy Dean to Speak on Post-Soviet Russia

James R. Wilburn, dean of the Pepperdine School of Public Policy, will speak on "Post-Soviet Russia:  What Went Wrong?" on March 30, 2015, at the weekly student convocation series at Lubbock Christian University (LCU), in Lubbock, Texas.

Wilburn was involved in early efforts to aid in the transition from the Soviet system of planning and control to great economic freedom and privatization, including serving as cochairman of the Committee to Assist Russian Reform. Wilburn will discuss those efforts, and offer reflections as to why market-based reforms of the time, which succeeded in other countries such as Poland, failed so miserably in Russia. Wilburn will be joined by LCU history professor Dr. Kregg Feher in a conversation about recent events in and prospects for, post-Soviet Russia.
