HSAC@SPP Launches New Data Layers on COVID-19 SALUS Map

The Homeland Security Advisory Council at the School of Public Policy adds new data layers to support crisis communications on the web-based mapping platform, SALUS - The Crisis Hub. Working closely with the City of Los Angeles, along with Los Angeles and Orange County emergency officers, SALUS provides the latest information on public services provided in the region in response to the COVID-19 pandemic along with a statewide case tracker.

SALUS puts the power of geographic information systems directly into the hands of the public, crisis managers, public safety professionals, and policymakers, providing its users an innovative way to visualize information and effectively analyze data. This interactive map has been viewed more than 670,000 times and was featured in LA Daily News, OC Register, and ABC7.

“As we saw with the use of SALUS during the October fires, and now in response to COVID-19, this customized mapping platform has become a crucial element in our region’s public crisis communications,” noted Braun Family dean Pete Peterson at Pepperdine’s School of Public Policy. He added, “I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and great skills of our HSAC@SPP team.”

HSAC@SPP supports numerous cities including Los Angeles, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Burbank, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, LA Metro, and the /Unified Homeless Response Center.

New data layers on the SALUS map contains:

  • City of Los Angeles Temporary Shelter Beds • City of Los Angeles Handwashing Stations
  • Los Angeles Unified School District Grab and Go Food Centers
  • Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Grab and Go Food Centers
  • Orange County School Districts Grab and Go Food Centers
  • Older Adults Nutrition Program locations
