Davenport Discussion: "The Whys of Public Policy," October 18

The Davenport Institute for Public Engagement and Civic Leadership at the School of Public Policy will welcome Stephen Glen Harding for a Davenport Discussion on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at noon, in SPP Room 175. Harding will present, "The Whys of Public Service."

Harding has nearly four decades of professional public and private sector experience in municipal management, privatization of public service delivery systems, organizational design, urban planning, economic development, redevelopment, real estate development and public finance.

As a passionate mentor to the next generation of public sector professionals, Harding will discuss with students "The Whys of Public Service," specifically why local government is a good career choice for people who want to make a difference in their world. He will also touch on his current interests in building a culture of civic awareness and public service within public sector organizations, producing effective public service delivery systems through regional cooperation, and the importance of civic responsibility.

Each semester at the Pepperdine School of Public Policy, the Davenport Institute hosts a series of lunchtime Davenport Discussions with practitioners, journalists, innovators, and researchers who speak to students on a wide range of issues from state and local finance to the use of technology in government to the outlook for cities in a state budget crisis and much more. These interactive sessions give students an opportunity not only to hear from experts in the field but to ask questions and make personal connections as well. Lunch will be served.
