Part 1

We begin with the president’s blueprint for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by nearly a third over the next decade and speak with Janet Redman, the Director of the Climate Policy Program at the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington D.C.  She joins us to discuss Obama’s proposals that will be on the table at the UN climate negotiations in Paris in December for U.S. action on climate change which many environmentalists already consider inadequate and which Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell considers unattainable and illegal.

Part 2

Then we look into the historic elections in Nigeria that the opposition won convincingly and speak with a former election observer in Nigeria,Dr. Robert Lloyd, a professor of International Relations and the head of Pepperdine University’s International Studies Program. We will discuss the resounding victory by a former military dictator Muhammadu Buhari over the incumbent Goodluck Jonathan and how this might impact the war against Boko Harum and what can be done to turn around Nigeria’s oil-dependent economy at a time of falling oil prices.

Then finally we speak with a Nigerian priest and human rights activist Aniedi Okure, the Executive Director of the Africa Faith and Justice Network, about whether the broom, that was Buhari’s election symbol, will be used to sweep away Nigeria’s endemic corruption so that oil revenues will reach the people of a country with a fast-growing population that is expected to reach 210 million by 2020.
