Ukiah: Making it easier to find the gap to Fill

When two women in Ukiah saw needs in their community, they wanted to do more than volunteer- they wanted to make it easier for other community members to get involved too.   They decided to establish volunteer website to help non-profits, charities, and local organizations for the Ukiah community.

The volunteer website, Together We Can Mendocino, allows the community to participate in activities to help improve the city as well as support local non-profit organizations.  The site works with 34 nonprofits as well as with city agencies that need help with events.  From directing traffic during downtown events to cleaning building windows in the city, this new website connects community to improving the city:

Popowski and McGillivray encourage volunteers to get together for coffee or lunch afterward. It’s turned out to be a good way for people to meet and get to know the community, they said.

In the past, the two have acted as intermediate coordinators, but they’re modifying the website to make it easier for would-be volunteers to directly contact the people who need them.
